One of the biggest problems which affect worldwide to this society is hunger. For some people, it could seem this problem only affects third world countries. Although there is a huge lack of information or misinformation about people having alimentary necessities or suffering for poverty in developed countries.

This issue is not exclusive, not some countries for to be big nations, the European Union (EU) or another sort of myths are free of to find people with need of alimentary resources. Just, the problem in some cases it is not the lack of supplies, the consumerism or the over-production; if not those resources are not managed properly and efficiently allowing the access of them to who needs it.

Having in mind the hurdle is the food waste and the lack of bridges between institutions which could allow the good management of basic groceries to the communities in more need. It is going to be introduced the case of an NGO which operates in California but, only, for to make know the case and with the hope in other countries, the example or initiative will be promoted. Also, to share the knowledge that in the United States of America (USA) people pass hunger. Not everybody in Los Angeles is rich. In case, some people keep wondering…

Food Forward it is a group which operates mostly thanks to the volunteer work of people who picks up fruit which is going to waste for to give it to the Bank of Aliments. They go to orchards, farmlands, individual gardens with fruit trees where the owners wish to donate, they recollect it in the grocery shops or farmers markets and they give it for their posterior distribution. You can know more in this video.

In the USA, it is estimated more than a 40% of the food produced is wasted while 1 of 6 individuals lacks the access to this food. Mostly, for economic reasons or because there is not a bridge of people getting that food for to bring it to the Bank of Aliments.

The food recovered reaches over 100,000 people at month across Southern California through different charity distribution partners. What Food Forward pretends it is to give a simple solution to the disparity by connecting the surplus of produced food with the people who cannot secure their daily meals.

Still, it is shocking to find out not all the countries inside the EU have accurate measures or sufficient data of how much food is wasted and not distributed properly. It is estimated 88 million tonnes of food are wasted annually in the EU, which supposes a cost of 143 millions of euros. However, of all the EU countries only Austria, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom provide enough information to manage this studies and to solve these problems being Luxembourg the most efficiently and with less wholesale and retail food waste, while Germany is the one with bigger cyphers.

There are things which must change and which must be improved for to go forward. To fight food waste and to end global hunger are just a few of them. Why do not learn of initiatives like Food Forward for to make of our distribution resources the best?
