Light a Candle

"Without faith, hope and trust, there is no promise for the future, and without a promising future, life has no direction, no meaning and no justification." Adlin Sinclair

“Without faith, hope and trust, there is no promise for the future, and without a promising future, life has no direction, no meaning and no justification.” Adlin Sinclair

Ruefully, there are so many people worldwide which are hopeless, in special teens. The consequences are diverse: family issues, culture, not to find the right place in the society, so cannot be allowed to act or to make their dreams come true… Sometimes, the lack of hope is associated with the lack of faith, call it religion if you wish, but sometimes these situations are created because one individual is not in his/her rightful place. Let’s put an example: a child of any sex on a country in ways of development, maybe not. S/he has been lucky enough to have a basic elementary education, thing which their parents had not. However, his/her interests for to read or to know more have not finished there. It has been awakened on him/her the curiosity of to learn more, of to want to improve his/her live for to become better. Then, s/he found s/he cannot because the world around him/her considers s/he has learnt enough that there is no more need of knowledge because his/her destiny is sentenced to become a rural farmer on some corner of Africa, maybe Asia, why not Europe or America… But s/he does not want that life. S/he has discovered s/he can learn more and not only to improve his/her life if not the lives of the people around him/her. Still, no one seems to support those ideals. S/he is considered insane and it seems anything s/he does works against the stream of a huge preconception of the culture of certain societies. It is a huge barrier which happens to so many teens around the world. They feel misunderstood, and that leads to the lack of hope, the lack of self-confidence… In most cases, it ends in suicide.

Tomorrow, it is the International Day for Suicide Prevention. This initiative was created on 2003 after WHO checked the terrible stats which say 800,000 people die by suicide each year around the world. However, on there, it is not added the shuddering cypher of the young people who are anorexic, have depression, tend to self-harm practices, fall on all sort of addictions… All those problems are the ones who tend to lead to the suicide of an individual but everything starts for the same: the lack of hope.

There are several platforms online, which I have shared in the past, to try to help those young people in need. Some of them plead to make them draw butterflies or locks on their arms instead of to cut or to harm themselves with any sort of sharpening thing or substances. The key of all of this is to light a candle in the darkness to let see the hope to all these people. To show them that, despite all the obstacles around them, they are not alone. That maybe they should give up to so many individuals, or chains, which restrain them or that they wrap around their necks like poisonous ivy. But with the enough effort, they can break those barriers which are drowning them to have the life they have always wished and loved. On their countries, or in any other place, and despite what others say certain things could be more or less difficult to reach but one should not keep like a bystander waiting that everything will be resolved around him or her.

Let’s work for to give hope for all those people to see their path through their own dark faith. Sometimes what one needs is to have the vision to can keep the hope alive. At least, that was what a wise black man said because it is not a matter of races, neither culture. It is a matter that we are all equal humans and we should respect one to each other just like we are, without to forget to give a hand to the ones who need it.
